Celebrating Rosh Chodesh in Anafim v’Alonim

Shorashim Knows Their Tsvaim (Colors)!

Shorashim has been putting a focus on their צבעים (tsvaim – colors) vocabulary this past week through a new מִשְׂחָק (mischak – game) we’ve been playing.  It is called ארבעה צבעים (arbah tsvaim – four colors), and is essentially one giant sorting game!  Who knew that we could work our gross motor and cognitive skills all at the same time?! …

A New Beginning

This week in Beit Shorashim/Shteelim (Nursery/Kindergarten), we have started preparing for ראש השנה (Rosh Hashanah-The beginning of the New Jewish Year).   We prepared a celebratory meal and tried תפוחים (Tapuchim–apples) and דבש (Devash-honey). We learned a new skill, pointillism (pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in …

We started out the year introducing (or reintroducing) children to their שמות (shemot—names) in Ivrit. Children have demonstrated that they can write their שמות (shemot—names), and many are even choosing to write their …

Aleph Bet Adventures

In our first week of camp, we are paying special attention to our Ivrit שמות (shemot — names) and how special they are.   In order to be able to write our שמות (shemot — names), we have to practice writing our otiot (letters). This morning, we played aleph bet matching games with muffin tins …

Shorashim Begins to Explore Tu B’Shevat

This week Shorashim began exploring Tu B’Shevat, the New Year (or birthday) for the עצים (etzim – trees)!  First we decided to make some עץ (etz – tree) decorations for the classroom in honor of Tu B’Shevat.  Morah Naomi made an outline to guide us and we used pastels to color it in.  Coloring in those …

Shorashim geared up for the upcoming start of Chanukah this week with many different Chanukah themed activities.   We did some dreidel spin art with Morah Naomi in Yetzirah.   We got a little more creative with our Chanukkah art and used not only dreidels, but נרות (nerot – candles) as well.  You can read more …
