THEME:

Teshuvah (Returning to the Path You Want to Be On)

AGE(s):

First-Second Grades (ages 6-7)

YEAR:

Fall 2022 (5783)

INSIGHT:

“Sometimes I do stuff to my brother that he doesn't like. That makes me feel a bit more powerful. There's a lot of power, but it's not exactly being used for good. Well, the best way to get rid of the power which is not good is to say, “Sorry,” and be sorry. Doing teshuvah makes me feel like I'm sharing power. It makes it not as bad.”(age 8)

PROJECT:

The Power of Teshuvah

STORY #4:

When we began our Teshuvah theme, this child said that the word was new to him.

A year later, we asked him to reflect on how teshuvah appears in his life. Astonishingly, he articulated that teshuvah can rebalance power in his relationship with his younger brother. Through our Teshuvah theme, the child came to recognize that power can be used in damaging and nourishing ways, and that teshuvah can rebalance the scales.

What a powerful understanding for an 8 year old!
