An Intentional Design Process

In שׁוֹרָשִׁים (Shorashim– ‘roots’ for nursery) and שְׁתִּילִים (Shteelim– ‘saplings’ for kindergarten) we are putting together our design for the curtain for our community’s אָרוֹן (aron- ark)!

The children looked at composite drawings of  עצים (etzim- trees), so we could finalize the design and start laying out the fabrics in the spot that they will be glued.

Here are some of the things that children said as they were telling us about what they wanted to create on the curtain:

  • I like the one with two flowers. I like the one that has a smaller tree in the back.
  • I like that it’s super tall.
  • I like how the leaves were shaped and that you can see the roots. I like how most of them are drawn. I like that there are flowers here.
  • It reminds me about the tree at my house and it makes me kind of happy. I liked that this one has baby trees and the details like the roots.

We learned about layering the fabrics and then got started! The children settled into quiet and spent a long time laying out the fabrics to make the shape of the עצים (etzim- trees).

We are very excited about what our curtain will look like when it is finished and can’t wait to share it with the community!
