Preparing for פֶּסַח (Pesach-Passover)

This week was very exciting! All of the children had the opportunity to explore one of the ways that some Jewish people might prepare for פֶּסַח (Pesach-Passover). At the Jewish Enrichment Center, we clean up and put away all of the chametz (foods that rise, like bread, crackers and “o” shaped cereal), that we might use for snacks or baking.

The first thing we did was figure out what foods that we typically serve are chametz. In this photos children are examining the ingredients lists of the foods, before making a pile of chametz and foods that we would serve on פֶּסַח (Pesach-Passover).

Then, we learned about bedikat chametz (a “check” for chametz). This check for chametz might be conducted used a candle as a light source, with a feather and spoon to scoop up any chametz that is found.

We made our own bees wax candles!

We made our own chametz scooping devices!

We did our own bedikat chametz (a “check” for chametz)around our space using our chametz scooping devices and electric tealights and flashlights!

We look forward to getting ready for Pesach in other ways over the next few weeks!
