This week at the Jewish Enrichment Center, we started our new theme: יוֹסֵף (Yosef)! After hearing the text (Genesis 37:1-11) for just the first time, the children in Nitzanim v’Anafim (“Buds” for 1st-2nd grades and “Branches” for 3rd grade) were absolutely bursting with questions and ideas.

“This is Ya’akov and all his children. Everyone except for Yosef is red because they are all mad at him. It’s not Yosef’s fault his father loved him best. Maybe the brothers are mad because they want to be loved more, or best.”

- Child 1: “Why would he (Ya’akov) scold him (Yosef)? It’s just a dream. You can’t control your dreams.”
- Child 2: “Dreams aren’t reality.”
I know these questions and ideas will only deepen as we continue to explore this text and open up new texts! Stay tuned!
