Shanah Tovah from Shalom Chaverim!

Shanah Tovah! (Literally, “good year” but usually translated as “Happy New Year!”)

Our very first session of Shalom Chaverim (“Welcome, Friends!”) for infants and toddlers plus a grown-up was all about Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! In our NEW Jewish year we had so many NEW faces, NEW ways to explore, and NEW skills to show off.

We played in the rice table, finding pictures for Rosh Hashanah like tapuchim (apples) and d’vash (honey). These children are showing off their NEW skills for keeping the rice inside the table so that we can take care of our space.

We baked delicious applesauce muffins for a sweet new year. These children are showing us their NEW skills for taking turns stirring. It can be hard to wait for a turn, but they were so patient!

After singing songs together and finding the shofar in the mystery box, some children found a NEW way to explore–dot painters! We decorated Shanah Tovah cards for people we love.

What a fabulous first session! I can’t wait to see the ways the children will explore Sukkot (“Booths,” The Festival of Booths).
