Shema Journaling

This week in our שְׁמַע (Shema) theme, we introduced a new way for children document their שְׁמַע (Shema) experiences. Children in שׁוֹרָשִׁים (Shorashim– ‘roots’ for nursery) and שְׁתִּילִים (Shteelim– ‘saplings’ for kindergarten) have been journaling!

Each day, we heard a new story about someone saying שְׁמַע (Shema). We played the story so we could see what it would feel like to say שְׁמַע (Shema) that way. We heard stories about saying the שְׁמַע (Shema) outside, saying שְׁמַע (Shema) with the community at the Jewish Enrichment Center, and saying שְׁמַע (Shema) while looking at the stained glass in the sanctuary.

We gathered in the spot where we would sing together as a community. We heard the story about saying שְׁמַע (Shema) with Jewish Enrichment Center families when we could to gather to sing together. We sang together and used shakers.

Each time we heard a שְׁמַע (Shema) story and played it, we took out our special שְׁמַע (Shema) journals so we could draw (and sometimes write) about it.

Looking forward to how we will document about שְׁמַע (Shema) next week!
