A Deep Dive into Our New Theme

This week Nitzanim met the new theme: לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel). We will spend the next eight weeks collecting information to try and figure out exactly what לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel) means to us.

Nitzanim partners were extremely focused as they traversed the room to see how much they could notice about לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel). The room got quiet as they wrote or drew pictures of what they saw.

At the end of this activity Nitzanim met in small groups to share with others what they saw in the photos of לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel). Nitzanim made two HUGE lists full of all the things they saw. Here is some of what they saw;

People doing different things with their bodies like:

  • “Wearing a Jewish cloth”
  • “Just doing yoga”
  • “Drawing on a cliff by the sea”

Different things in the spaces;

  • “books” “more books”
  • “grown ups” “They are all old.”
  • “hats” “those are kippas”
  • “Chagall stained glass”

Nitzanim ended the day by wondering. Here are some of the questions Nitzanimers want to explore:

  • “What does לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel) mean?”
  • What are the hard hats (teffilin) doing?
  • What are they reading?
  • Why are they wearing תְּפִלִּין (teffilin)?
