A New Theme

The beginning of a new theme is a time of trying lots of new things!

Our new theme is called לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel), we will be spending the next several weeks trying to figure out what לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel) means to each of us. During this theme, we will explore a number of different categories that might fall under the heading לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel).

On our very first day, we tried a noticing exercise using photos showing different kinds of people, of all ages, showing a way לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel). The children took turns noticing out loud to each other and started to do some comparing.

“Look they are using a book with Hebrew words in this one and this one!”

Then we played some of the ways לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel) we saw in the photos:

Trying on a טַלִּית (Talit).
Saying Shema.
Holding and looking inside of a סִדּוּר (siddur- Jewish Prayer Book)
Using musical instruments.
We did some exploration of the Sanctuary, downstairs.

To finish off our exploration for the day, we did some journaling. The children drew a picture showing something that might help a person לְהִתְפַּלֵל (L’hitpalel).

Here are some of the things that children said about their pictures:

  • A סִדּוּר (siddur– Jewish Prayer Book).
  • The table with the microphone and a סִדּוּר (siddur– Jewish Prayer Book).
  • When we played instruments.
  • The stained glass, it was beautiful.
