This week, our exploration of Jewish objects in Shalom Chaverim (“Welcome, Friends!”) expanded to include a special book–
The Torah! Together, the 0-3 year old children and their grown ups had the chance to explore the Torah in many different ways.
We shared Torah stories together.
and we examined many images of the Torah from different synagogues. the children were drawn to the beautiful colors they observed on the various Torah covers.
Then, of course, there was a real Torah to explore.
The children lovingly uncovered the Torah and rolled it out on a special place on our shattiach (rug.)
“What do you see in there?”
One friend observed that he noticed “A-B-C’s!” Together we are learning about the special Hebrew letters that make up the stories inside the Torah.
We set out to draw what we observed
And to take a closer look.
The children learned that the people who read the Torah use a special tool, called a yad, to find the letters. They were interested in exploring the yad themselves.
The children even created their own beautiful yadaim together.
We can’t wait to continue exploring this special Jewish book together!
