Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish celebration of the birthday of the trees, was made for hands on, scientific exploration… and there was lots of that happening in Shalom Chaverim this week.
After posing the question “What fruits come from trees?” the children set to work exploring lots of different kinds of fruit together.
We noticed that some of the fruits had little seeds, and some had great big seeds.
The children had strong opinions about which items were the most (and least!) delicious after tasting avocado, dates, figs, pomegranates, peaches, and oranges.
Yum!
And, of course, no celebration of Tu B’Shevat is complete without plunging our hands and fingers into some real dirt.
The children set to work filling pots they had painted last week with lots of dirt. When the pot was full, they sprinkled in seeds.
Don’t forget the water!
we continued exploring trees through building,
sensory play,
and art.
Happy Tu B’Shevat!
