| Genesis 18 |
בְּרֵאשִׁית י”ח |
| 1) Adonai appeared to him, at the oaks of Mamre. Now, he was sitting at the opening of the tent, as the day grew hot. |
א וַיֵּרָא אֵלָיו יְהוָה, בְּאֵלֹנֵי מַמְרֵא; וְהוּא יֹשֵׁב פֶּתַח-הָאֹהֶל, כְּחֹם הַיּוֹם. |
| 2) And he lifted his eyes, and he saw– הִנֵּה!– three men were standing in front of him! He ran to meet them, out from the entrance of his tent, and he bowed to the ground in front of them. | ב וַיִּשָּׂא עֵינָיו, וַיַּרְא, וְהִנֵּה שְׁלֹשָׁה אֲנָשִׁים, נִצָּבִים עָלָיו; וַיַּרְא, וַיָּרָץ לִקְרָאתָם מִפֶּתַח הָאֹהֶל, וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ, אָרְצָה. |
| 3) He said, “My lord — if I have earned favor in your eyes, please don’t pass by your servant. | ג וַיֹּאמַר: אֲדֹנָי, אִם-נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ–אַל-נָא תַעֲבֹר, מֵעַל עַבְדֶּךָ. |
| 4) “Let a little water be brought, and you can wash your feet, and rest under the tree. | ד יֻקַּח-נָא מְעַט-מַיִם, וְרַחֲצוּ רַגְלֵיכֶם; וְהִשָּׁעֲנוּ, תַּחַת הָעֵץ. |
| 5) “And I will bring you a bit of bread, and you can regain your strength, and then travel on afterwards, since you happened to pass by your servant.” They said, “We accept, please do as you said.” |
ה וְאֶקְחָה פַת-לֶחֶם וְסַעֲדוּ לִבְּכֶם, אַחַר תַּעֲבֹרוּ–כִּי-עַל-כֵּן עֲבַרְתֶּם, עַל-עַבְדְּכֶם; וַיֹּאמְרוּ, כֵּן תַּעֲשֶׂה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ. |
| 6) And so Avraham rushed into the tent, to Sarah, and said, “Quick! Get three measures of good flour, and knead it, and make cakes!” | ו וַיְמַהֵר אַבְרָהָם הָאֹהֱלָה, אֶל-שָׂרָה; וַיֹּאמֶר, מַהֲרִי שְׁלֹשׁ סְאִים קֶמַח סֹלֶת–לוּשִׁי, וַעֲשִׂי עֻגוֹת. |
| 7) And then Avraham ran to the herd, and took a young calf, nice and tender, and gave it to the young helper, and he quickly prepared it. | ז וְאֶל-הַבָּקָר, רָץ אַבְרָהָם; וַיִּקַּח בֶּן-בָּקָר רַךְ וָטוֹב, וַיִּתֵּן אֶל-הַנַּעַר, וַיְמַהֵר, לַעֲשׂוֹת אֹתוֹ. |
| 8) Then he took cheese and milk, and the meat, which he had prepared, and served it before them. And he stood by them under the tree as they ate. | ח וַיִּקַּח חֶמְאָה וְחָלָב, וּבֶן-הַבָּקָר אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה, וַיִּתֵּן, לִפְנֵיהֶם; וְהוּא-עֹמֵד עֲלֵיהֶם תַּחַת הָעֵץ, וַיֹּאכֵלוּ. |
