Bake Sale for Hunger

This week, children in our mixed-age חוגים (chugim, Pesach electives) were given a text from the seder that says, “Let all who are hungry come and eat. Let all who are in need come and celebrate Passover.” When asked how they want to help hungry people in Chicago, they came up with a plan to host a bake sale to raise money to donate to an organization that helps hungry people.

The children baked goods both in class and at home to sell at the bake sale. Visitors could choose how much they wanted to donate – anywhere from 10 cents to $20. When visitors received their cookie, they also received a fact about hunger in Cook County from the fact jar.

Children made decisions together in order to execute an event that will truly help others in Chicago. It was amazing to observe their passion and enthusiasm!
