Last week, we began our end of the year project in Beit Shorashim and we are well underway! We have decided to make a book that every child will get to take home with them to remember our year together. This book will include pages that are both designed by our whole community with our favorite theme explorations from the year as well as a Hebrew page and the big holidays we celebrated together. In addition to these group pages, each child will also get to create their own individual page with the explorations that they most enjoyed from our year together in Shorashim.
To get back inside of some of our favorite memories together, we have spent the past few weeks revisiting some of our work together from the year. In our room there has been a bulletin board of pictures from our different themes that children have been looking at and sharing their favorites with each other. From there, I set out some of our favorites to go back and explore together. These have included wiki sticks and play dough to make our Hebrew שם (Shem-name) out of, the musical instruments that we used during our הלל (Hallel) theme, comic book materials, baking aleph bet cookies, dancing scarves and costumes, as well as going back outside to draw in nature. We listened to music together during משחקים (Mischakim-games) from Psalm 150 and used our scarves to remember how our bodies feel dancing and moving to the different songs. While playing with our different musical instruments again and thinking about their sounds, two children shared “we are making a band that is called both our names and these instruments make a loud boom firework sound!” Revisiting all of these explorations from so long ago really helped children to choose their favorites and almost every child has chosen something different as their favorite from our year together.
Next week we will begin making our individual pages and finishing our book together so that it is ready to share at our Family Exploration and Celebration on June 7!
