Shorashim and Shteelim are well underway with their final יצירה (yetzirah – art/creativity) project for our current theme, שמיטה (Sh’mitah-release). Both groups are working together to create a mural. The first three panels will show what happens to the land during the years leading up to שמיטה (Sh’mitah-release). And the last two panels will show what happens during שמיטה (Sh’mitah-release). The process of this project is similar to Shorashim and Shteelim’s first יצירה (yetzirah – art/creativity) project for this theme, their farming books. For the mural, just like with the books, we are also working with collage. Some of the vocabulary surrounding the steps is similar to the collaged books as well.
Here is how we are making the mural: First we painted the background for all five panels with blue for the sky and a dark brown to show the soil. To create a picture on top of the painted background, we are using collage materials, cutting out pieces of paper and gluing them down. Here are some photos of our friends working together to paint the background as well as a peek at the first two panels that we’ve created so far!
