The children in Shalom Chaverim were busy this week preparing for Tu B’Shevat by exploring trees in many different ways.
There were trees to build with and for. As the children built, they explored the textures, shapes, and colors of the different trees. We also examined the blocks and wooden shapes together– the children are learning about all the amazing things that come from trees (including wooden blocks!)
We set out working on creating our own trees as well– the children drew, stamped and colored together with a variety of art media to create our own unique map of Israel, filled with green “trees.” We will continue adding to our map as we approach Tu B’Shevat.
We even examined a part of a real tree together: a pomegranate. The children first looked at the fruit together, guessing what it might be. Then we looked at a picture of real pomegranate trees growing in Israel: and then we set to work breaking out our seeds and tasting the fruit. This is a challenge for our developing fine motor skills, and makes a yummy
kibud (snack).
We are all excited and ready for Tu B’Shevat.
