Anafim begins a new theme

This week flew by in a whirl of motion. There was so much palpable excitement in the air! Unveiling a beautiful yetzirah project, fantastic Ivrit activities, new mischakim (games), and finally, the start of a really exciting new theme. When Anafim entered on Tuesday they were greeted by a whole range of objects from a בֵּית כְּנֶסֶת (Beit Knesset= the title of our theme). We spent time examining the intricate metal work on ritual objects, and looking at pictures of בתי כְּנֶסֶת from different places and time periods. We have a running list of “Where do Jews live?.” Some children have listed the places where their parents are from and others have thought of places they have traveled to. Most exciting, to kick off our new theme, each member of Anafim received a research notebook that will hold the information the Anafimers collect about  בתי כְּנֶסֶת. We are starting off in Ostia Antica, examining the Ancient  בֵּית כְּנֶסֶת that was built and used sometime between the 1st and 3rd century AD. The Anafimers are antsy to get going on their research and can’t wait to see what is in store for this theme!
