Shorashim and Shteelim spent another Sunday morning collaborating and learning from one another. Using the story of David and Jonathan, as well as Yeta the Beautiful Hen (a particularly awesome Yiddish/English/Spanish children’s book), both groups have explored questions like, “What is a friend? What do friends do together? How do I know if someone is my friend? Are friends always happy? Are friends always together?” Working in pairs the children drew an image of things friends do.
Here we see the children drawing a flurry of friendly activity: friends swimming together and having an adventure. But the children also recognized that sometimes friends need alone time.
One child said, “Let’s add a friend who was happy but wanted to stand alone for a little while and then come back to play.”
Another added “Sometimes I want to stand alone when it gets loud but I still like friends and I come back.”
Friendship is complex! But we’re figuring it out biyachad (together).
