Snacktime in Shushan

After all the hard work that went into finishing up our קדושה (Kedushah, holiness) theme, what better opportunity to unwind than פורים (Purim)? In addition to making some fabulous מסכות (masechot, masks), ענפים (Anafim, “branches” for 3rd-4th grade children) have been getting into the silly, zany, outlandish Purim spirit with skits and table readings of the Purim story …

Purim Spiel in Alonim

This week, Alonim (for 5th and 6th grades) is working very hard on writing and directing their own scenes in a Purim Spiel, or funny play telling the Purim story. Their spiel will be performed on Sunday for the younger children at the Enrichment Center. Get ready – Alonim has a lot of puns up …

What We Do To Unwind

Wow! We have worked hard for seven weeks to explore יוסף (Yosef – Joseph) in the Torah. From wrestling with how brothers could sell another brother into slavery, to feeling renewed determination to stand up for others in tough situations (born out of a heated classroom conversation about whether or not the character of Reuven was brave), we are closing this …

Purim is Live!

During כיבוד (Kibud-snack) this week, we read a brief version of the Purim story in Beit Shorashim. Even though this wasn’t the main focus of our Purim exploration together, it lead to so much excitement surrounding the holiday for children. We started booing together when we heard Haman’s name in the story and as we were reading …
