Preparing to Count the Omer

Every year at the Jewish Enrichment Center we count the Omer, the period of 49 days between Pesach (Passover) and Shavuot. This year children of all ages helped make our Omer by watercoloring flowers. Thanks to all their effort, we’ve got 49 flowers ready to bloom as we count the Omer!

Our Omer

This week in Yetzirah (art/creativity) all the different kevutzot (groups) worked together on parts of the Omer calendar. Anafim created the שבעת המינים (Sheva Minim – Seven Species) to decorate the bottom and symbolize the upcoming holiday of Shavuot.   Shorashim and Shteelim painted with watercolors little cards to keep track of the 49 days from the second …

It’s that time again! Starting the second night of Pesach we count 7 weeks or 49 days until the next holiday, Shavuot. This is called the Counting of the Omer.
